I aim to provide a
personal service, offering individual design solutions to meet clients'
particular
requirements,
and this approach is adopted whether for a large new extension or for a
small internal
alteration. I use
my
expertise to seek out the hitherto unexploited potential of any
building to
provide cost effective
and elegant solutions.Starting with an informal
chat and visit to your home or office, at which the basic concept of the
project is
discussed, a full range of architectural services can then
be provided to completion, as
follows:
- feasibility studies.
- survey work.
- outline cost advice.
- preparing outline designs with alternative solutions.
- making applications for all the necessary consents
(e.g. listed building consent, planning
permission and building warrant).
- preparing final design drawings.
- preparing detailed specifications, schedules of works
and contract drawings.
- obtaining priced tenders and reporting tendered costs
to you.
- managing the building work, cost control, dealing
with contractor payments and final
accounts, etc.
- handing over the building.
- local authority final inspection.
In the past I have worked on larger projects, including
grant aided tenement repairs and rehabilitation
schemes. More recently however I have focussed on the design of
garden rooms, conservatories,
extensions and alterations to houses, flats and smaller commercial
premises with contract values
from £5000 to
£250,000. A high proportion of my work has been with
listed buildings or with
buildings in conservation areas.
I am a member of the Royal Incorporation of Architects
in Scotland (RIAS) and of the Edinburgh
Chartered
Architects Network (ECAN),
this being a support group of 35+ sole practitioners who
provides technical and professional backup resources where required.
I carry full professional indemnity insurance.
I will be happy to meet with you and discuss your
requirements. I make no charge for initial
consultations
(limited to the City of Edinburgh) but ask that clients make
a donation to the
Shelter
charity. I will also be pleased to arrange
visits to completed projects,
